Mastering Your Temperament For Greater Productivity.

Unarguably, you will tell me “I know myself”, if I ask you what you will do in the next hour. Let’s say a guy just walked close to you and lashed you a great slap then drew back and said; “please I am very sorry about that” Two different people here will take different actions. Those in psychology and sociology will tell us there are four different categories of human temperament; the sanguine, phlegmatic, choleric and the melancholic. Do you know where you belong? Then is there where you want to belong? In other words, are you happy being in

that group?

Those few questions above will get you started in knowing fully who you are. Temperament is the prevailing or dominant quality of mind that characterizes a person. Therefore, taking the above definition, let us then examine how you can identify and master your temperament and then use it to influence your environment.
Your temperament is not a curse and that is just the truth, there is always something good in every bad thing. Each of the temperament categories has a down side. Therefore, you can then maximize your upside.

Here, think deep down, what mood of yours does people like most? I mean when do you normally attract people to yourself? What do people get from you at this point? Take it this way, what do people miss about you when you are not there? If you can answer the above questions sincerely, you are on the way to using your temperament to your advantage.
Now have found out what you posses that make people crazy about you? You can still do something more for yourself here. Do you desire any satisfaction doing what people like about you? Can you repeat it as at when and where needed? If your answer is affirmative, then you can now use it to suppress the other side of you.

When you were searching for your best mood you also found out your worst mood. You have to diminish this mood or eliminate it completely. When you are happy, you tend to be productive while reverse is the case when

you are sad.
If you can do the following, then you will diminish the rate at which you get moody. Whenever you are sad or annoyed,

  • Pick out a piece of paper; feel free to write down what you can remember that made you sad.
  • Re-examine that and why it should make you sad.
  • Work out a way to live above that,
  • Study your solution and throw away the paper.
  • Allow your inner self to rise above the emotional and strong personal and mental frustration that could introduce judgmental bias.

Though your spirit is vexed, your mind stressed and your health tortured, you are on the way to determining your future if you could use the situation positively. I will deliberate more on using stress to achieve greatness in my next article “Stress, a Veritable Tool for Achieving Greatness” after this series.
It is only when you could make a good judgment free from bias that you can truly be a master of yourself and circumstances and then deal with the situation without much difficulty having real insight and good composure.

During one of my recent researches, I found out that a lot of people employ this method to get over their sad mood, anger and any unpleasant situations. One of the persons I asked said he used to write down his feelings whenever he was down on the mood but had since stopped that method. In his words “I have mastered myself, now I can control my moods, I no longer get angry when people think I should”. This man has done what we call Self Mastery and you too can do better.
